Blizzard was not a pony who went on erroneous shopping trips. Blizzard was a pony who shopped when she needed to and only when she needed to and only bought things that were absolutely essential to her everyday life. She didn't need anything frilly or useless and was content to be as utilitarian as possible.
This was why she was currently perusing the marketplace in search of a new bracelet. Of course, the bracelet was not as frivolous as it sounded--hoof adornment was something that Blizzard had decided she took very seriously and was now going to remedy the fact that her hooves had been unadorned for the past eighteen years of her life. She was meandering through the market, keeping a little to the right and out of the way of more eager ponies, looking for the future adornment that would Speak to Her.

It was an absolutely beautiful winter's day in Ponyville. It was still cold, of course, but the sun was shining cheerfully and warming the air just enough that it was refreshing and pleasant to be outside. This was more than enough of an invitation for Pinkie Pie, who really didn't need any persuading to go out and socialize. On the contrary, she usually spent most of every morning out and about around the marketplace, chatting up all of her friends and neighbors. She loved this catching up time especially because she loved hearing about what was going on in everypony's lives.
That morning, she had no sooner parted from a lengthy and spirited conversation with Farmer Iceberg about all the many varieties of lettuce when she spotted a pony who she considered to be one of her nearest and dearest friends: Blizzard Storm. Her face brightened up even more to see her, and she bounced happily over to give her signature Pinkie Pie hello.
"BLIZZY BLIZZAAAARD," Pinkie sang, popping up behind the bluegrey pony about two inches from her ear. "OMIGOSH, I was JUST thinking yesterday about how I haven't seen you in SOOOO long, and how horribly horrible that was because I LOVE seeing you! What are you doing? Are you shopping? OOH OOH, can I help??"

Even when Blizzard was startled, she usually made no noise, but Pinkie Pie had always had the ability to get a gasp out of her. She sucked in breath like she was choking and made a strangled, squeaky sound as she did, skittering backwards and rearing up in alarm. She knew it was Pinkie before she saw her, but it didn't lessen the shock any and she felt her heart racing as she calmed down, shaking her mane out.
"Ohhey, Pinkie Pie, could you repeat what you just said? I don't think they heard you in Cloudsdale." She rolled her eyes and shook her mane out again before clopping back over to Pinkie. Now that the initial shock had worn off, she was free to actually socialize.
Except, she really didn't want Pinkie's help finding anything that had to go on her pony. She eyed her. "I'm not looking for anything specific. Just. Y'know. Stuff. For me. Like food. Food for me is what I am looking for."

Pinkie kind of knew that she was a startling pony, but instead of that being a reason to tone it down, she actually prided herself in her ability to make a lasting impression. The idea that she might actually be kind of over-the-top rarely occurred to her, mostly because, to Pinkie, there was no such thing as over-the-top. There pretty much was no top.
Sometimes, Pinkie also had trouble with sarcasm; she knew what it was, and that it was a thing that other ponies did, but at the same time, it was often hard for her to understand, being that it was usually something positive that actually had underlying negativity. When faced with a choice between taking something positively and taking something negatively when it had two possible connotations, Pinkie Pie would never choose the negative connotation first; that just wasn't in her nature. It was probably thanks to that little gap in her understanding that she and Blizzard were even on good terms-- Blizzard was often sarcastic, but Pinkie never took offense to any of it because instead she took all of her words quite literally.
"Oh, sorry. Let me try again," Pinkie said, and then repeated exactly what she had said a moment ago, but practically shouted it. "Was that better?" She beamed.
At the pony's next statement, Pinkie began bouncing again. "FOOD?" She squealed. "There's food EVERYWHERE, silly! Practically everypony has a different kind! What is Mr. Tummy telling you he's hungry for?"

Blizzard sucked in air again, pressing her lips together. Unlike Pinkie Pie, her brain was always naturally inclined to the negative and so when she said negative things, as she always did, there was never a part of her brain that suggested someone might not take them as sarcasm. Because she knew, after the fact, that Pinkie Pie had just misread her--she always misread her. The things she did and said weren't out of malice, like if Blizzard herself had been faced with the same set of circumstances.
Nonetheless, this genuine volume made Blizzard wince and she hoofed back a few steps. Being friends with Pinkie Pie was a workout.
"Uhhh...yeah. Food. Uh. I dunno, I couldn't decide." She shrugged and looked around. In the immediate vicinity was a sandwich shop and a bakery. She turned back to Pinkie and shrugged again. "What...do you want?"
This was a question that scared her--to pose such a thing to somepony like Pinkie Pie seemed dangerous. She leaned back in preparation of her next shout.
