Rain Shadow wasn't much for clothes. She didn't usually need them, and they just got wet or torn in rough weather (her favorite kind), so there wasn't a lot of point.
But the pegasus was going home to visit her parents in Cloudsdale, and they were making her attend a local dance, just as they did every time she visited. She sometimes wondered if the Cloudsdale council planned them every time she came home. She suspected her parents had something to do with it, at least.
Normally she would trudge her way through it, and complain a bit. And she would still be complaining this time, and she didn't think she would enjoy it terribly. Social engagements were not her foray, after all. But she wanted to look good. Better than that, if possible. She hoped that a nice outfit might help her get some conversations going, though if that failed she could always talk about weather. At least there were ponies in Cloudsdale that liked to talk about weather. And anypony who lived in Ponyville long enough knew that there was only one pony to go to for a flattering, fabulous, high-quality outfit: Rarity.
Rain Shadow had never personally spoken to Rarity - maybe she had seen her when she passed the word on the weather, or simply in the street. She was looking forward to meeting her, and having a dress made by her. She was sure to look great. Pretty, maybe.
The dark blue pegasus entered the shop, causing a bell to ding above her head. As she trotted up to the counter, she looked around admiringly at all the pretty dresses. She did not see Rarity, however, and walked up to the counter, where a bell sat. She rang it twice and waited. Hopefully she wouldn't have long to wait.

Rarity didn't understand why customers always had to appear in the second she walked into the back to have some water. She'd barely gotten through the door to the back room before she heard the service bell tinkling and sighed. She was still thirsty, but she supposed it would have to wait. She turned and trotted out of the back, Opalescence waddling along at her hooves.
"Good afternoon!" she trilled, prancing over to the mare standing by her counter. She was a pretty cute mare--definitely had potential--and Rarity beamed. There was nothing she loved more than a helpless mare in need of a serious makeover and this mare seriously could use her help. "I don't think I've ever seen you in here before, darling." She batted her eyelashes, walking over to her.
Since Rarity never thought about how other ponies felt when she dressed them, she didn't notice that it might have been odd when she started circling around her, like a lion sizing up its prey. She just wanted to see this mare from all angles to make sure that she could get a good picture of what she could design for her. Truthfully, she'd had a vision of what she wanted to do the second the mare walked out, but she just wanted to make sure.
"Oooh, I think you would look absolutely lovely in a cape. And you have got just the mane for a beautiful hat! I've got just the thing, darling, if you'll stay here." She dashed off to a shelf on the other side and things started floating up above her while she looked for the Thing she had been thinking of.

Rain Shadow bowed her head respectfully as Rarity herself entered and began circling her. Her ears flattened against her head. She didn't really like analyzing things unless it had to do with weather. Speaking of which, she had to mention her request to Rarity before things got out of hand. She didn't like interupting people - and Rarity was going on about capes and hats - but it had to be done. When the unicorn trotted to the shelf on the other side of the shop and started moving things with her magic, Rain Shadow cleared her throat.
"Um, Miss Rarity? I, I was hoping to get a dress. For a dance, in Cloudsdale. My parents are, uh, making me attend, so I wanted to, er, make an appearance. In style." The blue pegasus flicked her tail, a sign of nervousness she often displayed. She cleared her throat and continued, more confident this time.
"And, since I'm Ponyville's weatherpony, I was hoping to have a dress that was, well, weather-related. C-can you do that? I mean, I don't know anything about making dresses, and you do, so I'm sure you can, I just think... Well, um, you see what I mean." Rain Shadow closed her mouth. She didn't have to keep talking, so why did she? Goodness. You would think she didn't know how to carry a conversation that would let the other pony talk.
Evidently not.

Sometimes, Rarity hated everypony, but since hatred wasn't particularly lady-like, she tried to sublimate that emotion into something more proper--like motivation. She was motivated by Rainshadow's weather statement to both do what this Pegasus wanted as well as something that she herself could be proud of.
"Weather-related, you say?" she asked, trotting slowly over and stopping in front of the pegasus. She tilted her head to study her coat and mane. She already looked like a waterfall--why would she want something else to look exactly the same? "Dear, you know, I think you're forgetting just how--ah--blue you are." She circled around her, a lion examining its prey, and stopped again on the side of her with the cutie mark.
"I'm thinking...stars and sequins!" she cried, beaming. After all, stars were in the sky, so they were definitely weather related. And who didn't love sequins?

Rain Shadow looked at her blue coat and felt a little stupid. She was a good color for weather already. But that wasn't what she was thinking of when she said weather.
"W-well, yes, that's true," She managed a small giggle. She bit her lip as Rarity announced her idea: stars and sequins. She considered the idea seriously. Stars were in the sky, and that was where weather happened.
"I'm sure that would look great, Rarity," The blue pegasus began. She swallowed and twitched her tail before starting to bargain a little. "Do you think you could include some clouds? I don't need much, b-but I would like to reflect myself in my dress. I want to be me when I wear it..."
