There was always something a bit infuriating about trying to traverse the busy Open Market. There were always ponies in the way, jostling and shouting and stepping on each other's tails. Then, of course, there were those with wares to sell, pushing their goods into the faces of passersby and singling out victims to seduce into buying some useless trinket. All of this was topped off by the tiny, squealing little colts and fillies, always darting around legs and squeezing under hooves. It was all anypony could do not to step on the awful little things.
Soothoof stamped impatiently, surveying the messy throng. It would be easier to go around the whole thing, but that would take longer too, and she was in a hurry to get home. Then again, with all of the maneuvering she would have to do, maybe it would be faster to move along the edges. She scanned the crowd again, stomach lurching at the idea of having to navigate through it all.
Better not... she thought, taking a step back, I'll just go the long way home. Too crowded... too many chances to want to kick somepony in the face...
This decided, she turned away from the mess, fully intent on going the long way around. However, she paused, wavering for a moment.
But then again... brother might appreciate it if I bought him something... she turned back around, scowling as a filly howled at her mother for candy. Annoying as it was, it did present Soot with a good idea for a gift. Taking a deep breath, she plunged into the mass, seeking out somewhere to pick up a treat for her brother.
