Pony's name: Amor Match Pony's age: Adult pony (think 30 in human years. Ish.) Type of pony or animal: Earth pony Pony's cutie mark and special talent: Two halves of a heart connected like a puzzle piece. His special talent is matchmaking. Employment: He runs his own matchmaking caravan - El Amor - that travels around Equestria. Current city: Traveling through Ponyville at this time, though he lives in Canterlot.
Appearance: Amor Match is red in color, with thick and flowing black hair. His mane is longer than his tail, of course, but both are thick and luscious. It's undeniably his favorite feature about himself (though his cutie mark - two pieces of a heart put together - is pretty fantastic). He likes to dye the tips of his mane and streaks in his tail different colors, so they're currently purple, but it's bound to change whenever his mood changes.
Amor is not the tallest pony, but he's of a reasonable height and is fairly buff. His eyes are a light orange, and he has a missing tip from his ears after his older sister's unfortunate mishap.
Personality Amor is usually described by other ponies as flamboyant, uncanny, romantic, and, for some, downright irritating. This is a brief, but accurate, statement.
He is direct, and feels no need to fluff up his words more than necessary. (This does not stop him from making over-the-top romantic statements, though. Those are entirely necessary.) He is honest to everyone he meets, though he can exaggerate for the ladies. He will give honest opinions, and does not see the point in lying. If he has to say something unpleasant, he'll say it or just avoid the pony in question for as long as he can.
This earth pony likes to throw other ponies off. He uses wit and tongue-in-cheek humor in order to distract so that he might get his own point across and ensure that he is usually not challenged, at least not immediately. He can gather a lot of information about anypony he talks to fairly quickly because of his ability to quickly analyze and understand a pony (which helps him in his line of work).
Amor Match hides nothing about himself, and is quite outgoing. He's an excellent conversationalist, flirtatious, and a decent salespony as well. He prefers talking to mares, though that doesn't mean he doesn't talk to other stallions - he's just a better conversationalist with mares because he likes to talk about love and other such things. He enjoys romantic ideas, and plays around with them often. He's quite the charmer, or at least imagines that he is. He can be taken off-guard if a mare he talks to isn't flattered by his words, but he's not too bad at thinking on his feet and turning the situation around. He also likes to pamper himself, because he feels that he deserves it for what he does in making ponies happy. This also helps him hide his own sadness at being alone, because he gives himself something nice.
He likes to think himself a pony's pony, and empathizes well. This makes him a good matchmaker, as he can understand a pony quickly and easily, and then find them an appropriate match that they (most likely) will be happy with.
Background Amor Match was born to the north in Espoña, but he and his parents, an earth pony and a unicorn named Red Vine and Rosita Rosada, moved to Canterlot soon after his birth to try and make their way in the world. Despite their high hopes, Amor and his sister Paloma Feather were not raised in high places, but he soon learned to cater to the sophisticated and elegant ponies who lived there by being charming and overly polite. His foreign origins also made him endearing to the mares and fillies, and he soon learned how to speak to them in a way that made them like him.
His parents were merchants, selling touristy things to the ponies who visited Canterlot. His father also had a small wine shop that advertised wines from their home nation of Espoña. Amor often helped his parents in their respective trades. When he was still a young colt, they encouraged him to try his own business to earn money for the family. His sister, his parents pointed out, already had a stall for selling simple jewelry. His mother encouraged him to try creating a stall to offer something he liked to do.
Amor had no idea what to try, but he knew he was good with ponies, especially the mares and fillies. One day, he was talking to one of his filly friends from school, Marble Flight. The young pegasus filly was much distraught because she was positive the unicorn she liked, Proper Charming, didn't feel the same way about her that she felt about him. Amor was determined to help, and decided to set the two up on a date, which he arranged. He worked with both ponies' parents, who were fond of the match, to pay for the expenses, and Proper and Marble hit it off quite well. When Marble revealed her delight to her friend Amor, his cutie mark appeared on his flank, showing off his ability to understand ponies well enough to match them with somepony they could get along with.
This gave rise to his matchmaking stall, which he named "El Amor," meaning "The Love" in Spanish. It was also a part of his name, so it fit him perfectly. It was slow going at first - he only served ponies his own age, and he wanted to work with the parents of the fillies and colts who came to him to avoid problems. (He tried not talking with the parents once - it was an experience that involved crocodiles, several traveling troupes, and the loss of all young pony's tails. He vowed never to repeat his mistake again.) However, his little business grew - for one bit, he could provide a name of the best match. For three bits, he could advise setting up a date or other romantic expenditure. And for six bits, he would set up the date himself. The results were almost always spot on. Amor got nothing but recommendations, and was overall very happy and rather proud of himself for his work. He enjoyed giving other ponies love and fulfillment.
He sought this same fulfillment for himself many times, but somehow, whichever pony he loved always seemed to be better suited for somepony else. But he was happy when they were happy, and so he moved on as best he could. Giving other ponies happiness made him happy, so he was able to distract himself. But he knew that when he met the mare of his life, he would know. Then he would have his own match.
At home, Amor was one of the favorite foals. His sister Paloma was often jealous, and liked to tease him. Never too meanly, because they did get along well when his parents were fawning over him, but enough that she did hurt his ears when they were playing once. She never really forgave herself for that, and stayed away from him so her innocent jealousy wouldn't hurt him. Amor was always saddened by this, but he gave up trying when she made it clear she wanted to make her own life and stop hampering his.
When he reached maturity, Amor decided that he wanted to see the world, and used the money he had earned to buy himself the "El Amor" caravan that travels Equestria to this day. Currently he is traveling through Ponyville, and decided to set up his business there until he feels the urge to move on.
Anything else you'd like to add: + Amor Match is undeniably Spanish. He can speak reasonable Spanish, though regular pony speech [English] is his first language. But the flair of those ponies, and the accent, remains with him. You have been warned. + He also lives in his caravan, which he has set up near the center of town (though he moves it himself to a nearby alley when it is not time for business so he's not in the way of daily life).
